HDOT continues progress in restoring transportation infrastructure
The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) continues to make progress in restoring transportation infrastructure following the impacts of Hurricane Lowell.
On Kaua‘i, crews cleared Kaumuali‘i Highway, the longest road on the island and a critical transit route, between Lῑhu‘e and Kekaha. Additional crews and contractors are continuing to work to clear fallen trees and additional debris from bridges.
In August 2026, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration announced the delivery of $6 million in emergency relief funds to HDOT for repairs of roads and bridges damaged by Hurricane Lala.
