Construction starts on Oklahoma’s Roosevelt Bridge
On Sept. 10, 2026, crews broke ground on the $408 million Roosevelt Bridge replacement.
First constructed in 1942, the bridge connects an estimated 11,000 vehicles daily over Lake Texoma. With the 80-year-old structure at the end of its design life, it is also a chance to improve safety and mobility in this important corridor.
At the groundbreaking event, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) was accompanied by its design-build team and federal, state and local officials to celebrate the new project.
The new replacement bridge will include four lanes, with more safety features such as full shoulders, lighting and a pedestrian path as well as improvements to the approach roadway.
Funding for the project was aided by the Federal Highway Administration’s Bridge Investment Program, it received a $124 million Large Bridge Project award.
The bridge plans to remain open during construction, with completion expected in 2029.
“Today, we celebrate long-awaited promises delivered for a stronger, more connected future for this region, its communities and the many residents and visitors who rely on this bridge,” said Oklahoma Secretary of Transportation and ODOT Executive Director Tim Gatz. “This monumental project represents what we can accomplish when we come together with a shared commitment to building a stronger state and a stronger future for those who come after us.”
