U.S. DOT provides $6 million in emergency relief to HDOT
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Highway Administration announced the delivery of $6 million in emergency relief funds to the Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT). This will go toward the repair costs of roads and bridges damaged by Hurricane Lala.
HDOT reported that a significant portion of Māmalahoa Highway (Route 11) was washed out by the storm and is now restricted to single-lane access. Other routes, such as Pali Highway (Route 61), reopened to traffic in both directions with HDOT working to clear landslides and downed trees.
“The emergency funding we’re sending to Hawaii will be used to help restore critical highway infrastructure Hawaiians depend on,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy. “This Department is committed to securing the transportation links that will make safety and rebuilding efforts possible.”
