Georgia water infrastructure awarded $500 million after Hurricane Helene
Nearly two years after Hurricane Helene devastated many states along the Atlantic coast, relief is still coming for impacted infrastructure.
Georgia Senators Ossoff and Rev. Warnock announced $500 million in Federal grants to upgrade and strengthen water infrastructure.
An estimated $360 million will go towards drinking water upgrades, while $125 million will go towards wastewater improvement.
“Bringing Republicans and Democrats together, we are delivering these resources to help improve Georgia’s water infrastructure after Hurricane Helene,”said Sen. Ossoff.
This funding comes from a 2024 bipartisan disaster funding package, other states also recently received this funding.
“Hurricane Helene was a wake-up call: our state’s water infrastructure is not ready to handle extreme weather. That’s why I’m proud to work alongside Sen. Ossoff to unlock federal relief funding to help prevent dangerous flooding and keep clean drinking water flowing when the next storm hits,” said Senator Reverend Warnock.
