California addresses 50-year-old critical infrastructure
Construction continues on the Bay Bridge Pump Station and Force Mains Replacement Project, replacing over 50-year-old critical infrastructure in Newport Beach, Calif. The project will replace the existing Bay Bridge Pump Station located on Pacific Coast Highway and replace the pressurized pipes consisting of two parallel pipelines that carry wastewater across the lower Newport Bay Channel. After the new pump station is in service, the old one will be demolished.
The Bay Bridge Pump Station was originally constructed in 1966, while the force mains are over 50 years old. After the recent impacts from Hurricane Marie on Southern California’s coastline, addressing aging infrastructure is critical.
