ASCE releases statement on BUILD America 250 Act
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) announced a formal statement on the BUILD America 250 Act. The bill reauthorizes the bipartisan funding of $580 billion over five years for infrastructure projects including bridge construction and rehabilitation, highway safety programs, transit programs, rail programs and for other purposes.
Previous bipartisan infrastructure funding, such as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, resulted in hundreds of infrastructure projects moving forward. ASCE dually cites that since these investments America’s Infrastructure report card recorded a ‘C’, the highest overall grade issued since it began reporting in the late ’90s.
“Sustaining these funding levels is essential to improving infrastructure conditions, expanding capacity to meet current and future needs, and ensuring our built environment is more resilient and capable of withstanding environmental and man-made stressors,” said Marsha Anderson Bomar, Ph.D., ASCE President. “The BUILD America 250 Act sustains funding levels across key transportation programs through Fiscal Year 2031 and includes provisions that will accelerate project delivery, support digital technologies, and improve safety. The proposed legislation will allow critical projects on our nation’s bridges, roads, rail lines, and transit systems to move forward with the certainty of a federal partner.
