Georgia breaks ground on largest public-private project on the country
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on the SR 400 Express Lanes project. With an estimated project budget of $4.16 billion, the project is expected to be the largest public-private partnership of its kind in the country. The project is a public-private partnership between GDOT, the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) and SR 400 Peach Partners, LLC (Peach Partners).
This 16-mile expansion will add free flowing toll and express lanes in one of the area’s busiest corridors. The project is expected to be completed in 2031.
“This innovative P3 approach demonstrates the value of working together with private partners and private capital to deliver landmark projects,” said Russell McMurry, Georgia DOT Commissioner. “Achieving these milestones underscores our team’s resolve and SR 400 Peach Partners’ shared vision to improve mobility for both cars and transit, and support metro Atlanta’s future economic vitality.”
