Delta Conveyance Project achieves important milestone
On April 23, 2026, the Delta Stewardship Council decisively backed Governor Gavin Newsom’s Delta Conveyance Project’s certification of consistency. This is an important step towards final permitting. The certification, submitted by the Department of Water Resources in October 2025, demonstrates that the project meets key requirements of the Delta Reform Act and the Delta Plan, which protect the Delta ecosystem and California’s water supply.
“The science is clear: California must quickly complete the Delta Conveyance Project in order to meet our water needs in the future,” said Newsom. “I thank the Delta Stewardship Council for their thorough review and look forward to final approval to get this vital infrastructure built while also protecting our environment. With this project meeting this milestone, we are closer than ever to seeing this important piece of infrastructure completed and benefiting all Californians.”
