EPA gives $2.1 million for drinking water infrastructure improvements

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a new release of grant funding from its Small, Rural and Tribal (SmaRT) Drinking Water Assistance Program. The funds from the EPA will go toward upgrading drinking water infrastructure, including addressing challenges of the aging infrastructure, such as removing sources of lead and Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances.

The distribution includes $1,039,000 to New York, $524,000 to Puerto Rico, $370,000 to New Jersey and $176,000 to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

“The SmaRT Drinking Water Assistance Program is a valuable tool to help improve drinking water infrastructure in Puerto Rico’s rural and small communities,” said Puerto Rico Governor Jenniffer González-Colón. “We are committed to making the best possible use of these federal resources to ensure their benefits reach those who need them most. I appreciate EPA’s continued partnership and commitment to protecting the health of Puerto Rico’s communities and environment.”
