Oklahoma bill seeks more funding to repair bridges

More than a thousand bridges across Oklahoma are still considered structurally deficient. Tulsa County leaders in Oklahoma report that some local bridges could need major repairs or even replacement as they continue to deteriorate. House Bill 4280 aims to increase funding for Oklahoma’s roads fund, which helps pay for bridge and road projects.

Rep. Nicole Miller, R-District 82, said the bill would add $10 million each year until the fund reaches a cap of $670 million, citing rising costs for construction and materials.

“What we’re doing right now with this bill is we’re doing a 10 million dollar increase on that for each year until it hits a cap of 670 million in the last three years, we have essentially experienced what would be 18 years of inflation,” said Miller. “We’re about 60 percent higher on our construction costs and materials.”
