Mississippi makes headwinds in strengthening transportation
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced several updates to projects in the south region, marking a new era for the state’s transportation infrastructure.
Crews continue to make headway on the $155 million project to widen I-10 from four to six lanes from Diamondhead to County Farm Rd. in Harrison and Hancock counties. The scope of work also includes technological upgrades and the construction of a multi-use path and a noise barrier wall near the Diamondhead exit.
Work is currently ahead of schedule on a massive $212.6 million project to widen and create a new, four-lane alignment on approximately nine miles of State Route 57 from I-10 to Vancleave in Jackson County.
“I’m proud to see significant headway made on large projects around the region, and I’m especially pleased to see work wrapping up on key projects, such as the Diamondhead interchange project, the U.S. 11 bridge replacement in Picayune and the State Route 63 bridge preservation in Jackson County,” said Commissioner Charles Busby, Southern Transportation District of MDOT. “All of these activities strengthen our transportation network and ultimately help citizens and our economy thrive.”
Each of these projects are designed to enhance transportation and strengthen aging infrastructure across south Mississippi.
