California invests $540 million in transportation infrastructure improvement
California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced $540 million in funding released for transportation infrastructure investments across the state. Approved by the California Transportation Commission, notable infrastructure projects receiving funding include $117.8 million towards replacing the fender system on the West Span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. This investment ensures advanced security for the structure in the event of an accidental ship collision.
Other projects include $70 million for weather-related highway repairs, $6.7 million in pedestrian priority repairs in Long Beach and $520,000 for biking routes in the San Joaquin Valley.
“Californians deserve a transportation system that is safe, reliable and built for future growth,” said California Transportation Secretary Toks Omishakin. “The Commission’s recent action helps support Governor Newsom’s goals of improving multimodal connectivity.”
