USDOT announces $426 million in funding for highway infrastructure

The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) announced $426 million in funding for 12 states through the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects (INFRA) program.

In Florida, $85 million will fund the construction of a general-use lane in each direction along 20 miles of I-4 between SR 434 and SR 472 in Seminole and Volusia counties.

$53.5 million is directed to the City of Wichita and Kansas DOT to widen 2.5 miles of K-96 from four to six lanes, addressing the state’s top-ranked freight highway bottleneck serving approximately 5,000 trucks per day.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will receive $25 million to convert a four-lane expressway into an eight-lane standard freeway with median barriers, targeting a high-risk corridor with a collision rate 30 percent above the statewide average.

$11.3 million is allocated to Savannah, Ga., to build a new four-lane divided connector from I-516 to White Bluff Road with upgraded storm culverts, reinforcing a key hurricane evacuation and port logistics route while supporting growing semiconductor manufacturing facilities.
