Three Los Osos Community Sites are converted to Recycled Water

The County of San Luis Obispo Public Works Department has completed three major water conservation projects that replaced potable water with recycled water for irrigation at Los Osos Community Park and two San Luis Obispo Coast Unified School District campuses—Monarch Grove Elementary and Los Osos Middle School. The effort was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting on October 14, 2025, and was made possible through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant funding and partnerships between the County, school district and local water purveyors. Project manager Corissa Burnett noted that reaching final agreements and meeting grant deadlines were key milestones in delivering these long-planned sustainability upgrades.

The conversions mark a significant step toward local groundwater conservation and environmental resilience. Los Osos Community Park’s $166,000 project ended its reliance on an on-site well, while Monarch Grove Elementary’s $410,000 conversion shifted its sports field irrigation to recycled water in just 45 days. Los Osos Middle School, the district’s largest water user, was prioritized to ensure completion during the summer break. With collaboration among the County, SLOCUSD, Los Osos Community Services District and Hartzell General Engineering Contractor, all three projects were delivered on time, helping preserve the Los Osos Groundwater Basin and advance sustainable water management in the region.
