Mastercard’s biggest U.S. data center soon will be powered by solar

In O’Fallon, Missouri, Mastercard is constructing a 40-acre solar facility to power its largest data center in the United States. As the center demanded over a third of all Mastercard electricity consumption last year, a haul roughly equivalent to powering 4,000 homes, the project aims to transform the data center’s energy dependence from its current 10% coming from solar to 100% renewable electricity. As part of Mastercard’s pursuit of renewable energy, the company expects the solar facility to be ready to start delivering electricity by 2027.
