LADWP breaks ground on stormwater capture project
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), Councilmember Adrin Nazarian, LA Recreation and Parks and the LA Bureau of Engineering held a groundbreaking ceremony for one of the stormwater capture project sites.
The Stormwater Capture Parks Program is an LADWP initiative to improve downstream water quality and reduce localized flooding through collecting rainwater and urban runoff. The program includes six other sites and expects to collect an average capacity of 158 acre-feet per year.
“The Stormwater Capture Parks Program is the kind of forward‐looking infrastructure that Los Angeles needs,” said Allan Marks, President of the Los Angeles Board of Water and Power Commissioners. “By capturing, treating and storing millions of gallons of stormwater that would otherwise be lost, we’re strengthening local water reliability, revitalizing community spaces and building a more resilient and sustainable water future for generations to come.”
