Google announces $17 million in water stewardship initiatives

Google announced on June 03, 2026, new water stewardship commitments. This comes as many global intelligence companies are under scrutiny for water usage on its data centers. The company pledged to replenish more water than consumed at its sites by 2030. Additionally, the company announced a $17 million investment in new water stewardship projects. The company also plans to publicly report annual water usage.

Some of these projects include partnering with local utilities to fund infrastructure improvements. For example, in Omaha, Nebraska, an undisclosed amount of funding will go towards a water line leak detection program at the Metropolitan Utilities District.

“In addition to paying for the water we use, to date Google has committed over $500 million to the development of water, wastewater and water reuse infrastructure and to the utility partners that deliver water in the communities where we operate/build data centers,” said Bikash Koley, Vice President, Google Global Infrastructure and Ben Townsend, Head of Infrastructure Strategy & Sustainability in a joint statement.
