TxDOT investing $850 million for major highway reconstruction
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is funding $850 million for reconstruction and expansion of major highways, Interstate 10 (I-10) and U.S. Highway 69 (US 69) interchange in Beaumont and Jefferson County. This project began in 2020 when the environmental clearance was obtained and construction started in November of 2024. The Cardinal Drive Interchange is an estimated construction cost of around $300 million, with the Eastex Interchange projected at approximately $550 million. The projects are aimed to decrease congestion, improve mobility and ease emergency evacuation routes. Construction is anticipated to be completed in Winter 2030.
Richard Bradley, assistant area engineer for the Beaumont TxDOT office, emphasized the department is implementing a proactive plan to identify and repair potholes quickly, increase pedestrian walkability and improve freight movement.
