One city is using data to protect its road infrastructure

The City of Industry, Calif., is taking a proactive approach to its 77 miles of road infrastructure, worth over $444 million. The city in eastern Los Angeles County implemented cost effective strategies for extending the pavement life, this includes tracking conditions, prioritizing repairs, and managing funding. Under the Pavement Management Plan, the city only expects the annual cost to maintain roads to be $10 million, a small price to pay for supporting the nonstop flow of freight, commuter and commercial traffic. Implementing a data-forward approach may be the solution for other municipalities with tight budgets and road infrastructure to protect.

“In the City of Industry, our streets are more than just transportation corridors—they’re vital arteries of Southern California’s economy,” said Mathew Hudson, Director of Public Works. “That’s why we’re investing in their long-term health and performance, ensuring they can continue to support the nonstop flow of goods, workers, and innovation that drives our region forward.”
