Mississippi announces infrastructure project updates

Commissioner Charles Busby, Southern Transportation District, announced updates to several Mississippi Department of Transportation projects on June 26, 2026. Crews continue to make progress on a large, $76 million infrastructure project in Pike County to resurface five miles of I-55 from State Route 24 to U.S. 98, construct two roundabouts on U.S. 98 at the I-55 interchange and raise four bridges over I-55.

“At the height of summer construction season, many infrastructure projects in the southwestern region of the state are meeting milestones and making strong, consistent headway,” said Busby. “I’m proud of the progress made thus far to move these projects forward and anticipate continued momentum as we work to improve the safety and quality of our state’s transportation system.”

Both eastbound and westbound bridges over the Pearl River are being replaced as part of a $57.7 million project on U.S. 98 in Marion County. The scope of the project also includes bank stabilization to help mitigate erosion and address scour issues. On a bridge replacement project on the U.S. 98 bridge over the Homochitto River in Franklin County, crews are working on diaphragms and post-tensioning cables and will soon begin work on the bridge deck.
