Kentucky releases new highway plan
Andy Beshear, the governor of Kentucky, and state transportation leaders released the 2026 Recommended Highway Plan on January 15, 2026. The plan is a six-year roadmap featuring more than 1,350 projects aimed towards making roads safer, traffic smoother and connections stronger across Kentucky. The nearly $9.5 billion proposal blends state, federal and local funding to repair aged infrastructure, expand key highways, and support major bi-state projects that expand the job market and economic growth.
Lawmakers will decide funding for the project’s first phase during the 2026 legislative season. If approved, the highway plan will improve daily commutes, commercial travel and regional development across the commonwealth.
