Gateway project construction continues amid termination reports

Despite announcements that federal funding for the Gateway Program may have been paused or terminated, construction on the project continues as scheduled. Contractors on Manhattan’s West Side, including Tutor Perini working on the Hudson Tunnel, report no immediate changes to their work, proceeding with tunnel construction and related infrastructure improvements.

The Gateway Program, a $16 billion initiative connecting New York and New Jersey, includes new Hudson River tunnels and rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged by Superstorm Sandy. Industry experts note that while current work is unaffected, prolonged government funding disruptions or shutdowns could impact long-term planning, scheduling and future project phases, emphasizing the need for stability in large-scale construction projects.
