FHWA provides $26 million in emergency funding for Indiana
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) announced the delivery of $26 million in Emergency Relief (ER) funds for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).
This comes after Indiana experienced a record-breaking stretch of thunderstorms and rainfall.
Storms throughout Aug. 11, 2026, to Aug. 17, 2026, caused major highway closures and on Aug.24, 2026, the Hazel Dell Parkway bridge collapsed.
The ER funding will go toward repairs for the Hazel Dell Parkway bridge, Interstate 70, State Route 38 and other areas impacted by the recent storms.
“The Federal Highway Administration is working closely with the Indiana Department of Transportation to speed up repairs and help ensure critical transportation is restored as soon as possible,” said FHWA Administrator Sean McMaster. “The emergency relief funding we are providing will help the state quickly fix broken transportation links so people can get back to work, run their businesses, and get back to their daily routines.”
