California Sites Reservoir project moves closer to construction
The Sites Reservoir project in California is close to receiving construction approval. The State Water Board will decide on the final permit for California’s Sites Reservoir project on Nov. 4.
The California Sites Reservoir project is a critical component of the state’s water strategy. When completed, the project aims to capture water from the Sacramento River, store it and provide a new water supply source in case of drought. The state estimates that when completed, it could hold 1.5 million acre-feet of water.
“California is moving with urgency to build the water infrastructure our changing climate demands,” said Gov. Newsom. “Sites Reservoir will help us capture more water when storms bring it, store it for when communities, farms, and the environment need it most, and strengthen our resilience to drought, floods, and a changing climate. The latest action moves this critical project another major step closer to construction.”
