California invests nearly $5 billion for local projects

The California Transportation Commission announces the allocation of nearly $5 billion to improve regional roadways and public transportation. This will provide over 600 local governments with funds to improve roads, bridges and other transportation repairs.

Under this initiative many projects were approved. This includes the Vincent Thomas Bridge, a 60-year-old span in the Port of Los Angeles. $700 million was allotted for repairs like a major deck refurbishment. In Interstate 80, a major freight interstate, $140 million is in place to improve truck climbing lanes. The restoration of fire-damaged irrigation systems and landscaping near Lake Forest in Orange County received $8 million. In the San Francisco Bay $10 million is allocated to build floating charging station for zero emission ferries.

“This nearly $5 billion investment highlights California’s strong commitment to creating a modern, resilient transportation system that enhances local streets and strengthens connections between neighborhoods, job centers and schools,” said California Transportation Secretary Toks Omishakin.
