$34 million awarded for water storage projects
Two California water storage projects received federal funding from the Bureau of Reclamation’s Small Storage Grant Program.
The South Valley Conveyance and Storage Project received $25 million in grant support. The South Valley Project aims to enhance water reliability, conveyance capacity and long-term groundwater sustainability for Central Valley agriculture and rural communities while creating 300 acres of new critical wetland habitat along the Pacific Flyway.
The Seaborn Reservoir Project in Tulare County received $9.28 million. The project aims to protect groundwater supply and increase flood control capacity to support areas during the peak irrigation season.
“Water is life in the Central Valley, and this investment of $34 million is vital for our farms, businesses and families,” said U.S. Rep. Vince Fong. “These projects will expand water storage, improve groundwater levels and give our region the tools it needs to capture and store water so that it is available when communities need it most.”
