$148 million approved for infrastructure improvements in Central Virginia
The Central Virginia Transportation Authority (CVTA) announced the approval of $147,964,457 for infrastructure improvements in the region. The funds expect to be spread over highway, rail, bike and pedestrian projects in the area. In a public meeting, politicians, residents and advocacy organizations submitted feedback on project allocation.
CVTA allocates its fundings across regional projects (35%), public transportation (15%) and local projects (50%). One project in Central Virginia receiving funding is improvements to the I-95-Parham Road interchange. The $4.6 million for the road comes after an evaluation of potential operational and safety improvements. The interchange will be reconfigured from a full cloverleaf interchange to a diverging diamond interchange to create a safer and more efficient interchange.
