USDOT awards Denton, Texas, funds for road infrastructure
Denton, Texas, secured a $1 million grant from the United States Department of Transportation to fund the city’s first Intelligent Transportation Systems Master Plan, which aims to improve daily traffic flow and overall road infrastructure.
“Now that demographic data set suggests that by 2050 Denton County’s population will be more than double and employment will be more than double as well,” said Farhan Butt, the city’s director of transportation. “So that really puts us in a difficult spot because it’s 2026 and we only have 24 years … and we are facing this population challenge.”
Modern road sensors, communication technology and data analytics are some of the infrastructure developments the city is planning to use the funding for. These initiatives fall under Denton’s first Smart Mobility Transition Strategy, part of the ITS Master Plan that aims to update the city’s road infrastructure to include smart mobility technologies.
