U.S. Department of Transportation Announces Approval of 180 Infrastructure Grants Nationwide
On May 6, 2025, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced the approval of 180 infrastructure grants totaling over $3.2 billion. These grants aim to address a backlog of more than 3,200 previously announced but unexecuted projects. Since taking office, Secretary Duffy and the Department of Transportation have approved a total of 329 grants, representing approximately 10% of this backlog.
The funding supports a wide range of transportation initiatives across various sectors. Notable allocations include $550 million for Alabama’s I-10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project, intended to replace aging infrastructure and improve traffic flow. Other significant investments encompass $1.4 billion for bridge projects under the Federal Highway Administration, $494 million for low or no-emission bus programs via the Federal Transit Administration, and $221 million for rail safety and infrastructure improvements through the Federal Railroad Administration. Additional funds are designated for airport enhancements, port infrastructure, and rural transportation initiatives.
