U.S. Department of Energy to Distribute Next Round of HALEU to U.S. Nuclear Industry
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has conditionally committed to providing high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) to three U.S. companies to support testing of two advanced reactor designs. With the goal of decreasing dependence on foreign-sourced minerals, the DOE allows nuclear developers to request HALEU from DOE sources. Earlier this year, the DOE distributed HALEU to five companies, and now three companies are expecting to receive the next wave of materials.
