Transportation Secretary Duffy Unveils Revised NEVI Guidance to Build EV Chargers
U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy unveiled revisions for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program that provides states with greater flexibility to ensure charging stations are built and federal funding is spent effectively and efficiently. Originally established to provide funds to States deploying EV charging infrastructure, Secretary Duffy and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) concluded in a review that 84% of the NEVI Formula program’s funds went unobligated. Changes made by Secretary Duffy and the FHWA include simplifying the state plan approval process by minimizing or eliminating requirements considering the electric grid, renewable energy and consumer protections impacting safety, all while reducing regulatory requirements on EV mandates and potential burdens.
