Transportation Secretary Announces Major Funding for Alabama’s I-10 Mobile River Bridge Project

On May 7, 2025, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced a finalized $550 million grant agreement to support Alabama’s I-10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Multimodal Project. This funding, provided through the Federal Highway Administration’s Bridge Investment Program, represents the largest grant awarded by the Trump Administration to date. The project aims to construct a new six-lane, cable-stayed bridge over the Mobile River, replacing aging infrastructure and enhancing transportation efficiency along the I-10 corridor.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Department of Transportation to address a backlog of over 3,200 previously announced but unexecuted infrastructure projects. Secretary Duffy emphasized the administration’s commitment to streamlining processes and eliminating unnecessary regulations to expedite project delivery and reduce costs. The new bridge and bayway are designed to improve traffic flow, increase capacity, and bolster economic development in the region.
