Topeka announces 2026 public works projects

Public works officials from Topeka, Kan., announces projects expected to begin or reach completion in 2026 as the construction season ramps up in April. The $18 million full pavement reconstruction on SW Huntoon St. from Gage Blvd. to Harrison St., is in the design phase with utility relocation expected in 2026. Construction of the project will begin in 2027 with a completion goal of 2029. A major project in construction throughout the year is the  reconstruction of SW Topeka Blvd., storm sewer replacement and waterline replacement. The near $8 million project is expected to be completed in winter 2026.

“Topeka’s infrastructure is the foundation of a safe and thriving community,” said Jason Tryon, interim Topeka Public Works director in an interview. “Each year, we carefully prioritize projects that improve mobility, address aging infrastructure, and strengthen water utility systems across the city.
