Oklahoma announces Route 66 revitalization grant
The Oklahoma Department of Commerce announced grant funding to support the revitalization Route 66. Ahead of its 100th anniversary in 2026, the state which hosts the iconic highway’s longest stretch of 400 miles hopes to bring back cultural and functional elements that have ingrained this road in American iconography.
While the Route 66 grant is already funding multiple infrastructure projects including a $35 million reconstruction of the historic “Bridgeport Pony Bridge” in Caddo County, I-44/Turner Turnpike Bridge in Wellston among other roadway and bridge improvements. Other improvements include the new signage of the Rock Café in Stroud, the café’s neon sign inspired Pixar’s Cars.
Municipalities or counties located on Route 66, nonprofit organizations and government entities are invited to apply. Projects to be funded must support historic preservation or economic development within communities on Route 66. The grant opensAugust 15, 2025 and closes September 30, 2025.
