Mobile River Bridge close to construction after $2.52 billion loan
A newly secured $2.52 billion federal loan will help kickstart construction of the Mobile River Bridge in Alabama. The Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project along 1-10 aims to eliminate the state’s primary bottleneck, enhance hurricane evacuation capabilities and expand freight access to the Port of Mobile.
“The Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project will ease traffic congestion, boost the flow of freight and enhance safety for drivers,” said U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy.
According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, construction on the Mobile River Bridge’s first phase, a six-lane cable-stayed bridge, is expected to start in October 2026. Phase I construction is expected to be completed in 2031.
