Injunction on Immigration for Federal Transportation Grants

The court issued a preliminary injunction blocking the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) from enforcing a condition requiring recipients of federal transportation grants to cooperate with immigration enforcement. The judge ruled that linking immigration enforcement to transportation funding lacks a valid connection to the USDOT’s authorized purposes and exceeds its legal authority, which lies under the Department of Homeland Security. This decision prevents USDOT from withholding or restricting federal transportation funds to local or state governments in 20 states based on compliance with immigration enforcement policies.
