EPA Orders Construction Company to Comply with Clean Water Act

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), working with the Virgin Islands Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR), has ordered Chitolie Trucking Service, LLC in St. Croix to comply with the Clean Water Act. Inspections revealed unpermitted discharges of wastewater and stormwater from the company’s ready-mix concrete and trucking operations into Cane Garden Bay. The enforcement order requires the company to immediately stop polluting, prevent repeat violations and report on steps taken toward compliance.

In addition to short-term pollution controls, Chitolie Trucking Service must secure proper permits from DPNR that mandate long-term environmental safeguards. EPA Regional Administrator Michael Martucci emphasized the importance of collaboration with DPNR to protect Caribbean coastal waters, underscoring the agency’s commitment to holding industrial facilities accountable. EPA and DPNR will continue monitoring to ensure the facility meets environmental standards and protects water quality in the region.
