DOE Announces Collaboration Agreements to Advance the Genesis Mission
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced collaborations with 24 organizations to advance the Genesis Mission, a national initiative using artificial intelligence (AI) to accelerate scientific discovery, enhance national security and drive energy innovation. The effort builds on President Trump’s Executive Order on AI leadership and America’s AI Action Plan, aiming to remove barriers to innovation and strengthen U.S. scientific capabilities. The partnerships, formalized through memorandums of understanding, bring together companies, universities, non-profits and federal agencies to create a scalable national AI infrastructure for research across energy, manufacturing, drug discovery and other critical sectors.
The Genesis Mission will enable American scientists to automate experiment design, accelerate simulations and develop predictive models, increasing research productivity and fostering breakthroughs. Participating organizations, including major tech and AI companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, NVIDIA and OpenAI, will contribute to projects that are architecture-agnostic and aligned with DOE and National Laboratory priorities. The DOE plans to expand collaboration further, inviting additional submissions through open requests for information, aiming to unify public and private sectors under a coordinated strategy to advance U.S. leadership in AI-driven scientific research.
