EPA approves millions for water infrastructure in Oregon and Washington
The Environmental Protection Agency has approved $240 million in low-interest WIFIA loans to support major water infrastructure projects in Oregon and Washington. The funding will help modernize wastewater systems in King County, Washington, upgrade and protect water resources in Medford, Oregon and strengthen drinking water reliability in northwest Oregon. These projects are expected to extend the life of critical infrastructure, safeguard water quality, and support local economies through job creation, while loan repayments return funds to the U.S. Treasury.
EPA officials emphasized that the WIFIA program is a key tool for accelerating water infrastructure investment nationwide. In addition to finalizing existing loans, the agency is opening new opportunities with billions of dollars available through upcoming funding rounds, including support for state-level financing programs. Priority areas for this funding include clean and reliable drinking water, pollution reduction, innovation, energy and economic growth and support for state and local water priorities, reinforcing WIFIA’s role in strengthening essential water services across the country.
