Longest concrete segmental cable-stayed bridge in North America opens in Texas

North America’s longest concrete segmental cable-stayed bridge, the $1.3 billion New Harbor Bridge in Corpus Christi, Texas, opened to traffic June 28. The bridge features a main span of 506 meters and a 164-meter tower, standing 62.5 meters above the water to accommodate large container ships, replacing an older 1959 structure. After years of delays and design changes, officials say the bridge will boost Corpus Christi’s role as a global energy hub and support jobs and trade in the region.
