Hochul Announces Record NYSDOT Paving Investment for 2026

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a record-breaking investment in New York’s transportation infrastructure, dedicating over $600 million to more than 180 paving projects statewide for the 2026 construction season. This initiative is part of the $34.3 billion NYSDOT Capital Plan, the largest in the department’s history, which received an additional $800 million boost in the latest state budget. The projects will resurface roughly 2,150 lane miles and, combined with NYSDOT’s core programs, mark the most ambitious annual road renewal effort ever undertaken in New York. The investment aims to improve safety, support economic growth and enhance quality of life, reaffirming Governor Hochul’s commitment to modernizing infrastructure to meet 21st-century demands.

State leaders praised the plan as a historic move to strengthen local economies and ensure safer, more reliable travel for all New Yorkers. With a total of over 250 pavement renewal projects planned for 2026, representing a $1.2 billion investment and resurfacing more than 4,000 lane miles, the initiative underscores the administration’s vision of building a more connected, sustainable and resilient transportation network. Officials emphasized that these improvements will not only rejuvenate highways but also lay the groundwork for long-term economic development and community well-being across every region of the Empire State.
