EPA Regional Administrator Visits New Jersey for Stakeholder Meetings

On May 7, 2025, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 2 Administrator Michael Martucci engaged with New Jersey’s business, utility, and legal communities to discuss environmental priorities and strengthen partnerships across the state. The day began with a business roundtable hosted by the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey (CIANJ), focusing on EPA’s ongoing work in the state, safe drinking water regulations, and energy priorities. Administrator Martucci emphasized the agency’s commitment to supporting both economic development and environmental stewardship.

Following the roundtable, Administrator Martucci toured the Carl J. Olsen Water Treatment Plant in Edison, NJ, operated by the Middlesex Water Company. Accompanied by Plant Director Mark Theiler, he reviewed the plant’s advanced treatment operations and discussed the company’s response to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water. Middlesex Water outlined plans for a new treatment facility to address contamination in the South Plainfield wellfields.

To conclude the day, Administrator Martucci spoke at the Steward G. Pollock Environmental American Inn of Court, addressing environmental law practitioners from both public and private sectors. The event, in collaboration with the New Jersey Bar Association’s Environmental Section, provided a forum to discuss evolving legal issues and the EPA’s role in enforcing environmental protections while working with regulated communities.
