Construction begins on $4.16 billion Atlanta highway project
Construction of the $4.16 billion project in North Fulton and Forsyth counties in Georgia began in March. This 16-mile expansion will add toll and express lanes in one of the area’s busiest corridors. The project is a public-private partnership between the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) and SR 400 Peach Partners, LLC (Peach Partners).
The project also supports the public transit, MARTA and its future Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line. This line will allow buses to travel toll-free, increasing affordable connectivity.
The $4.16 billion project is expected to be completed in 2031.
“We’re excited about this opportunity,” said John Robison, Alpharetta’s assistant city administrator. “We’re appreciative of GDOT taking this on. Long term, I do think it’s going to help a lot for those who live here, work here and the many who come to visit.”
