Inside infrastructure: A new standard for water reclamation in Sarasota County

Sarasota County’s Bee Ridge Water Reclamation Facility in Florida, seeks an ambitious infrastructure upgrade. The county was originally developed without centralized sewer infrastructure, and many still rely on outdated septic systems.

The new project is expected to be Florida’s largest membrane bioreactor. Designed to incorporate biological nutrient removal basins it is expected to reach Florida’s Advanced Wastewater Treatment standards.

Additionally, it seeks to prioritize hurricane-resistant construction as Florida faces more frequent volatile weather. It has a timeline to be completed by the end of 2025 and have a 50%increase the plant’s treatment capacity under a $105 Million loan.
