TxDOT projects boast major progress
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is balancing major infrastructure projects across the state. This month, they all saw remarkable progress to inch towards completion.
In northeast San Antonio, one of the largest projects in the state the $1.5 billion I-35 NEX Central Project passed the halfway mark. The project which began in 2022, is now more than 60% complete. At completion, expected in 2028, it will add three elevated lanes in each direction along a 20-mile stretch of I-35. Once finished, the new lanes will improve travel times for one of the state’s busiest corridors.
In Corpus Christi, the center span of the old Harbor Bridge was lowered. Over the course of nine hours, the 60-year-old steel span was laid to rest. In Cedar Creek, TxDOT and local leaders broke ground on a $58.5 million overpass project at Tucker Hill Lane. The project includes new one-way frontage roads and pedestrian and bicycle accommodations. Construction is expected to complete in fall 2028.
TxDOT is diligently working across the state to upgrade its infrastructure.
