Maryland Board of Public Works approves $3.1 million for expansion and improvement
The Maryland Board of Public Works approved more than $3.1 million in grants from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. On the Board of Public Works is Gov. Moore, Treasurer Dereck E. Davis and Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman.
The grant award includes a land trust for parkland, recreational improvements and land conservation in Anne Arundel, Howard, Queen Anne’s, Talbot and Worcester Counties. In these counties the finding will go towards three projects. Anne Arundel County will acquire 21.8 acres of land to expand Bell Branch Park in Gambrills. Sports fields are planned for the new area. Howard County will use funds to repave roads, paths and parking lots at Schooley Mill Park in Highland. Worcester County will construct a new parking area at Showell Park in Berlin to better accommodate visitors.
Additionally, the Maryland Board of Public Works approved d over $1 million in Rural Legacy Program funding. This will be allocated towards Queen Anne’s County to acquire conservation easements on two adjacent properties totaling 222 acres in the Lands End Rural Legacy Area. The Rural Legacy Program, along with the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation, recently earned the state national recognition from the American Farmland Trust.
