On May 16, 2025, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced over $21 million in Brownfields Grants to support 30 recipients across Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. These funds aim to assist communities in assessing and cleaning up contaminated sites, thereby promoting economic revitalization, job creation, and environmental improvement.
The grants include $12.3 million allocated to 17 communities in Pennsylvania, $2.4 million to 4 communities in Virginia, and $5 million to 8 communities in West Virginia. Additionally, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection received a $2 million grant for statewide community assessments. Two recipients in West Virginia and Pennsylvania were also awarded Supplemental Revolving Loan Fund Awards to enhance ongoing cleanup and redevelopment efforts.
These investments are part of the EPA’s ongoing commitment to assist local governments and non-profit organizations in addressing environmental challenges, revitalizing underused properties, and stimulating local economies. Federal grant recipients are required to meet legal and administrative requirements to receive EPA funds.
