63rd Street Waterline Replacement Project Completion Expected Fall 2025

The City of Boulder is set to embark on the 63rd Street Waterline Replacement Project, aimed at enhancing the infrastructure that supplies drinking water to the community. Scheduled to commence on October 7, 2024, and continue through fall 2025, this initiative will replace aging waterlines along 63rd Street between CO 119 (Diagonal Highway) and Jay Road. One of the new waterlines will be significantly larger, doubling the capacity of the existing infrastructure, thereby improving water distribution resilience and meeting the increased demand from the Gunbarrel community.

Construction will inevitably cause some disruptions along 63rd Street, including lane closures and detours for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. A full road closure is expected between Nautilus and Jay, alongside temporary impacts to local water service for residents during construction. The city aims to keep nearby neighborhoods and businesses accessible throughout the project, coordinating with community members in advance of any service disruptions. This project is part of a broader effort to maintain safe, high-quality drinking water for Boulder residents and will be followed by additional waterline replacements from Jay Road to Boulder Creek, slated for 2025-2026. Funding for this essential infrastructure upgrade comes from the city’s Utilities Fund.
